The meaning of „Sweet Sophie"
The name of the cafe – Sweet Sophie – goes back to Sophie von Schönburg-Waldenburg who lived from 1885 to 1936. In 1914 she became princess of Albania.
Sophie was a daughter of Prince Victor of Schönburg-Waldenburg and his wife Lucia of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (a daughter of the rumanian princess Pulcheria Cantacuzene). She married prince Wilhelm to Wied, later prince Wilhelm I. of Albania, on november 30, 1906 in Waldenburg.
Princess Sophie was a trained singer and mastered five instruments. She wrote several smaller opera compositions and performed occasionally in public. Her composition „The golden key" was premiered early september 1926 in the princely park Grünfeld in Waldenburg (Saxony). The princess spent her last years in Romania.
